"Dark Knight Rises" Trailer 1

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer has arrived and it is juicy! I also recently watched in IMAX the 6 minute prologue introducing Bane playing before Brad Bird's "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol". It too was action packed and intense, leaving me wanting more!
This film seems very much like its predecessors; unique and original interpretation's of the characters (in reference to film), intense action sequences, AMAZING storytelling... Out of all of these, I think I'm most excited to see more of Tom Hardy's interpretation of Bane. This guy can act and every second he's on screen, I notice myself feeling a little uneasy; questioning what this big guy is going to do next. His presence demands attention and Tom's take on the voice is quite chilling to say the least. Batman will have his hands full, there's no question about it. Will Tom Hardy's Bane have the same impact on audiences as the late Heath Ledger's Joker? From the looks of this trailer and the 6 minute prologue (which I highly recommend seeing along with Ghost Protocol), I'd say yes... This guy is going to be a great villain and this is going to be a great film!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Seth MacFarlane's "Ted"

I LOVE SETH MACFARLANE!!! I've been a huge Family Guy fan (Giggity) now for a while and I do appreciate Seth MacFarlane's humor (although absurd sometimes), it gives me the hard-core giggles! This is why I was super excited to hear about his directorial debut in feature films... Seth co-wrote and is directing "Ted", a film about a little boy who wishes his toy bear would come to life, and does...
The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and Seth MacFarlane as the voice of Ted (who will be CG animated). Being that this film will have an R rating, be expecting MacFarlane's one-of-a-kind humor. Also have a couple of really close friends animating on this show, which has me totally "geeking out" and excited for them - really cool project fellas; seems like it's going to be a very FUN production!
Really wanting to see this one on the big screen! "Ted" is due out in theaters July 13, 2012 :)

Sadly I did not read the original novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, BUT I am still very much looking forward to seeing this film! ...and then I'll read the novel ;)
One thing that always gets me excited about upcoming films are really well done one sheets and these 2 get HIGH marks!!! Love the mood lighting and the deep shadow hiding Abe's face. With axe in hand, sitting casually this President is one stylized vampire killer :)
Blood suckers beware, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" hits theaters June 22, 2012.

Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"

Ridley Scott's prequel to Alien (the 1979 smash hit) is almost here!!! “Prometheus” is the name of the Greek titan who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to humankind – only to be horribly punished for his actions by being strapped to a rock and having an eagle eat his regenerating liver out every day, for the rest of eternity...
Rumors have it the Scott's Prometheus too involves a "higher being" who is punished for stealing technology from more powerful beings and handing it over to humans. Word is, this story should give us insight into "the space jockey" and its purpose / history. I for one CAN'T WAIT!!!!
I've been a fan of this franchise AND of Ridley Scott for as long as I can remember. The film has an all-star cast in Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, and Katie Dickie. Scheduled to hit theaters June 8th 2012, this one you can be sure I will not miss!!!

I just wanted to give an extra BIG CONGRATULATIONS to my good friend Jeffrey Engel and all the Weta Animators who contributed outstanding work on "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"!!!!
With all the controversy going on regarding Andy Serkis, the Academy Award Nominations, etc... I thought it was important just to recognize, what I consider some of the best character animation to date! Really strong work Jeff and company... You all should be VERY proud! You made something special and set the bar for future films to come. I applaud you all, BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!

...and in the end, we all know who REALLY did the work ;)

DD's Tradition Studios & "The Legend of Tembo"

This is some really exciting news in the world of animation. Digital Domain is diving into full-feature 3D animated films... YAAAAAAEEEEEEHHHHH!!!!! They recently built a new, $40 million, state-of-the-art studio down in Port St. Lucie, FL that they are branding Tradition Studios. With the promise to house 500 jobs and the ambition to create original family fun features, Digital Domain is definitely paying attention to the top box office numbers over the past decade and wants to tap into the costly, yet highly successful 3D animated films.
Tradition Studios first feature will be titled, "The Legend of Tembo". Directed by former Walt Disney Animation veterans Aaron Blaise and Chuck Williams, Legend of Tembo tells a story of a young African elephant who is captured, separated from his family and taken to India to be used in battle. Young Tembo must become something he is not in order to return home...
I LOVE the concept. It has character arc written all over it and I think its a very meaningful story that will definitely make an impact on audience members alike.
"The Legend of Tembo", is slated to be released in the fall of 2014. It will be at the top of my list.

Sony Pictures Imageworks & "Hotel Transylvania"

I have gone throughout my entire life LOVING monster films! Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman... these classic characters have all left an impression on us in one way or another. Even though they can be intimidating at times, we as audience members and fans have grown to love them. All thanks to Sony Pictures Imageworks and Director Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack), we get to see another side of are beloved "monsters".
Due out Sept. 2012, "Hotel Transylvania" is the story of a 5 star resort where monsters go to escape the human world. The resort is run by Count Dracula (Voiced by Adam Sandler) who is an overprotective father trying to keep his guest happy as well as watch after his very adventurous teenage daughter and her new found love, a human boy...
I have GREAT news... I was recently hired on at Sony and I am EXTREMELY excited to have the privilege of working on this film!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Sony and everyone at the studio for giving me this amazing opportunity! THANK YOU to my loved ones for always being positive and supportive :) I can't explain how much this experience is going to mean to me. This film is going to be so much fun to work on and I'm sure it will be nothing less than a classic to families and monster fans alike!

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked"

Here is the next upcoming film I had the privilege of animating on over at Rhythm & Hues. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked" has not only been a terrific show to work on, but an amazing production as well. I have to give credit where credit is due: Mike Mitchell (director), James Kinnings and Ryan Donoghue (animation directors) were an absolute pleasure to work with!! I truly can't speak highly enough about these extremely talented individuals. With their direction and positive motivation we made a excellent film that will have the whole family laughing!
The Chipmunks are back and they are better then ever!! Definitely a must see for families and animation lovers alike - trust me, you won't be disappointed :)
Great work, great film, GOOD TIMES!!!!
This third installment to the franchise is due out late December 2011

"Mr. Popper's Penguins"

Penguins are quite cute... and that's why this film is simply adorable!! "Mr. Popper's Penguins" is the film we are currently working on at R&H. It's the story of a man who mistakenly is left to care for 6 very playful penguins and how they turn his life "upside down". I highly recommend this film to anyone, especially animal lovers, families, and people who love Jim Carrey (who is the star of the movie... along with the penguins)!! It is a fun and sincere film that will definitely pull the heartstrings. "Mr. Popper's Penguins" hits the theaters, June 17th of this year. I hope you all enjoy it and I'll see ya at the movies :)

"Hop"

Here's the first film I've been working on at Rhythm & Hues... It's creatively titled "Hop" and as I'm sure you can see by the image of the cute, very appealing characters and by the title, it's about the Easter Bunny :) The film has a lot of great qualities to it, BUT I can't give any of those away - you'll just have to see the film. What I can tell you is that it stars Russell Brand as E.B. the teenage son of the Easter Bunny who flees to Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer in a band. It is produced by Illumination - the people who brought us "Despicable Me" and directed by Tim Hill. It opens April 1st and will be a great film to take the kids to around the Easter Holiday... as well as all you Russell Brand fans (myself included), you'll enjoy seeing the VERY funny British Comedian on the big screen as a full CG bunny rabbit :) It truly is a fun film and I highly recommend it to all who enjoy a good laugh AND chocolate !!!!!

Rhythm & Hues: My New Home

I know it's been a while since my last post, BUT for good reason... I have a new job, a new home, and have been in production, working like a "crazy" person!! It's been hectic, but good fun all the same. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Rhythm and Hues for giving me an opportunity and a chance to contribute to all their wonderful films!! I also want to thank them for providing a work environment that is engineered to letting me grow as an animator and an artist!! So far, EVERYONE has been so nice, from the upper management and supervisors, to all the artist and production staff that inhabit the studio. Modest and humble attitudes go along way for any person to feel accepted and confident in their abilities. When you have those characteristics in your leader or in this case, your CEO, I truly believe that it resonates throughout the studio to all your staff and we all benefit from it as professionals. Thank You John Hughes for setting the example and creating such a magical studio... A studio I am proud to be apart of!!!

A New Shot Titled: "I'm Sorry"

I've been out of commission for a while, but for good reason... Busy, busy, busy !!!
My contract at ImageMovers Digital ended at the end of Sept. and I was able to go visit family and friends on some downtime in Oct. Since then I've started this new shot at home and started a new contract at Rhythm and Hues.
I wanted to post the blocking for the new shot because I will not be working on it again until I finish my contract at R&H (January/February). Keep in mind that it's still in a very rough blocking phase. Just giving the main storytelling poses, timing and layout of the shots, composition, and hopefully, the understanding of the story I am trying to tell. Please let me know if it makes sense and if it's feeling right. The pink slip in his hand is representing the loss of his job. I believe it was a metaphor back in the 30's or 50's for loosing work... Anyways, hope you enjoy it in its roughest of forms and I will definitely post more versions as I get the chance to work on it.

Thank you Paramount, Plan B, Brad Pitt, and most importantly, Max Brooks for bringing this epic novel to the big screen. With Brad Pitt fitting to star, "World War Z" will get the financial backing it deserves. Summer 2012, look out. We have another huge blockbuster in the making. I know I'll be seeing this one a few times in IMAX, popcorn in hand!

"Mars Needs Moms"

"Mars Needs Moms" is almost here... I am excited about this movie because it is the first film that I had the privilege of animating on.
It is the story of a young boy who takes his wonderful mother for granted... Until one night she is abducted by aliens and taken back to their home planet of Mars to be the care taker of their out-of-control children.

"Slow Motion"

Here is the link to a VERY funny experimental, short film that I can't stop laughing at!! I am also a BIG fan of the film for it stars a good friend of mine (Geordie Martinez), who is an awesome artist / rigger / animator and a talented actor as well! The creator, (another good friend and an awesome Ulitmate Frisbee player) Matthew Ward directed and cut the film in a matter of days. He and Steve Kirchner shot it on a weekend and it is complimented by The David Grey number also titled, "Slow Motion". Really nice, quality work and very entertaining!

ILM's new film, "Rango"... with a little hint of GONZO

I am really excited about this film, for so many reasons. First, it's ILM's first full-length animated, feature film (and what a film it will be). Second, it stars Johnny Depp (we all love Mr. Depp), and third, it gives a nod to the late, but very great, Hunter S. Thompson (i.e., Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Gonzo Journalist, author)... This still from the film's trailer proves it - That is Hunter driving the famous Caddy convertible, with his infamous big yellow tinted Ray-Bans, the hat and the Hawaiian shirt (AWESOME)!! Thank you ILM for creating this film; I am a HUGE fan of the beloved Mr. Thompson as well as a HUGE fan of ILM !! This is a killer combo and I will be anxiously awaiting for this film to hit theaters!

.....WOW, time flies when you're learning animation :)
18 months has come and gone in a flash and I can't even begin to express how much I've learned throughout this program... Bobby, Shawn, Carlos and the Animation Mentor crew have done a masterful job creating this unbelievable school. All the contributing professional animators and mentors go above and beyond expectations in teaching their craft. I can honestly say, it is one of the most solid educational experiences I have had and will ever have in my life!!!
I have to give a personal Thank You to "the god fathers", Bobby, Shawn, and Carlos for fulfilling a need and creating Animation Mentor - THANK YOU SO MUCH... I am forever grateful!!! I also want to give a BIG Thank You to my incredible mentors: Elliott Roberts, Jim Brown, Morgan Kelly, Nicole Herr, Randy Haycock and Mark Oftedal - you all have left an everlasting impression on my work and confidence as an animator... My Monologue... so far :)

This is my final, (well, at least for now... ha-ha :) of my monologue shot...

The story I'm trying to sell in the shot is the "sappiness" of this male character (Bishop). He really loves his wife and he's trying to say the most romantic thing that comes to mind.... the problem is, his mind is filled with comic book hero's and the sci-fi channel. All turns out for the best because he knows she really loves him for who he is and that gives him the confidence that he needs :)

You will notice that I toned down the performance a touch in a few places compared to where it was before this term started and I really feel it is for the best... My new mentor, Randy Haycock is a really amazing person and you can tell immediately that he has a strong passion for animation. He has been BIG helps this semester and has given me some really great insight into my shot and overall acting in general !! Thank You Randy for EVERYTHING !! I also feel I'm developing a more efficient workflow, so I'm hoping to see more improvement going forward on my next shot...

Class 4 Progress Reel

Here is my progress reel after finishing class 4 - Introduction to Acting... The lectures during this term were incredible (as always)!!! Focusing on the fundamentals of acting and ways of developing unique character traits / personalities. We worked on two shots - first being a pantomime performance of our choosing and second being a monologue shot, using dialogue from a film, TV series, or radio broadcast... Both needing to show an emotional beat change. Needless to say, these shots were a lot of FUN and a lot of work.

My pantomime assignment is titled, "Sweet Decision" and consist of a character at the baked goods aisle in a super market, trying to decide if he wants to buy the cookies or the brownies... but he better hurry up and decide because there is a BIG sale and the sweets are going fast!

The dialogue I chose for my monologue is Will Ferrell in "Blades of Glory"... I chose this particular dialogue because it was very appealing (funny), it contained a nice emotional shift (from confident, to insecure, and then back to confident), and it had some "animation goodies", like pauses and "effort noises" ... ANIMATION CHEDDAR !!! AND cheddar makes it better - always :) The staging I had in mind for this dialogue is to have the character saying it as his vows to his love at their wedding... Obviously, not at all the ideal phrases you would consider romantic, but that's what makes it SO FUNNY... at least that's the irony I'm going for. Keep in mind while viewing this assignment that it is a work in progress... we will work on the facial animation starting next term. We were only able to animate the jaw and the eye blinks, so what you see right now is what we call "Muppet mouth" :) Also keep in mind that the lighting is not at all finaled... the version your seeing now just has a quick pass, it will have a finished look when I turn in my final work on the assignment.

I really hope you enjoy my new shots... This course was my favorite so far, being that it was all about acting and the language of film. Great notes, great reference to very resourceful books, AWESOME mentor (again), AND lots of AWESOME FUN !!! Have to send a BIG THANK YOU to Nicole "the Doctor" Herr for being such an awesome mentor !! You gave valuable feedback during critiques and REALLY great notes during class !!! YOU ROCK :)

also, in case anyone was wondering why I give my mentors nicknames, it is because they are COOL and deserve a distinguished alias... I take from the name of a film or character they have worked on... Nicole is "the Doctor" because she worked on Dr. Manhattan in "Watchmen". Morgan Kelly is "the Beez Neez" cause he worked on "Bee Movie"... you probably get the idea, so what more can I say except, "I'm a dork" :)

This term we focused on Advanced Body Mechanics and I definitely feel that I made some major breakthroughs in my craft and my overall understanding of animation. Here is my Class 2 Progress Reel from Animation Mentor... It was a great term, but an extremely busy one. We had awesome lectures focusing on the psychology of body mechanics and even an inspirational one based on the art of story telling by Pete Docter (this is a great human being)!!! I spent a great deal of this term trying to formulate a good work-flow because I had to manage a long work week with my assignments. Even with the extra work load, I feel I learned a great deal this term and I would like to thank my AWESOME mentor, Jim "the God Father" Brown for being such a huge help and guide during the 12 weeks!!! The film is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' (1843) fable tale of an old and bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of one night. The film stars Jim Carrey (Scrooge, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future) and Gary Oldman (Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim) and is due out Nov. 09' :)

This is exciting news.... I have a NEW JOB !!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaa :) AND its my first industry (film) job !!! AND its in the animation department.... YAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
I AM SO EXCITED, I still cant believe it!!!

I have been chasing this dream for a long time and im so HAPPY that all of the hard work is paying off :) BIG thank you to my beautiful fiance`, my family and all my friends for always being supportive of my dream !!! LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!!

My new home away from home will be at the totally awesome and amaizing studio, ImageMovers Digital !!! And my task will be character finaling as a Mocap Jr. TD... SWEET !!!

I am having an absolute blast at Animation Mentor!!! Class 1 was not only extremely educational, but a lot of FUN at the same time... ANIMATION MENTOR TRULY ROCKS !!! Want to give a BIG thank you to Elliott (Iron Man) Roberts, my mentor from Class 1... Elliott, you are the man and you really provided me with the BEST resources and tools for the program. Thanks for ALL your wisdom and inspiration!! Also, I have to thank all the talented animators I've met through the school... you are ALL AWESOME ANIMATION NINJAS and I feel very privileged to share this experience with you!! Looking forward to learning and working with you all in the weeks / months / years to come :)

A Brief Overview

I was born and raised in Indiana. Received my Bachelors in Media Arts and Animation at the Art Institue of Fort Lauderdale. Have always known I wanted to be an animator, but much of the work I found after college was more general... Mostly in architecture and motion graphics trade. So, my fiance` and I saved up and moved out west to the San Francisco Bay area to be closer to the industry.. Had some friends that were established, recommend Animation Mentor. After doing some homework, the school seemed ideal for helping me achieve my goals. Now, I'm just trying to finish up school as strong as possible and with good fortune, land a great animation job after graduation. As far as what I want out of life, I just want to be happy and I always want to learn new things! My MOTTO: Enjoy the Strawberry!!!! :) strawberries are good
